BOSTON, MA (10/16/10) -- Boston Public Schools (BPS) Superintendent Carol R. Johnson today announced the expansion of online resources for BPS parents and students. In addition to Bostonpublicschools.org, BPS will now offer bpsfamilies.org. This new site  will be maintained by the Office of Family and Student Engagement and is part of the BPS vision to ‘welcome every family and every student, actively engaging them as partners in student learning and school improvement.’

“We know that more and more of our families are turning to web for information about BPS,” said Dr. Johnson. “We are committed to providing our families with accurate, up-to-date BPS specific information on several multi-media platforms, including our main website bostonpublicschools.org, twitter, facebook and now this exciting resource bpsfamilies.org

“As we launch this site, it is our hope that it will be a valuable resource not only to parents, family members, students, and community members but to teachers and school staff as well,” said Michele Brooks, Assistant Superintendent for Family and Student Engagement.

BPSfamilies.org contains a wealth of information about research-based strategies, approaches, and tools that families, teachers, students, and community members can use to engage in what goes inside classrooms and at home to improve learning and help our students succeed academically.

The launching of the site is split into two phases. The first phase focuses on pressing and current topics around family and student engagement in BPS. The second phase, which will happen during the third week of October, will present two new sites inside bpsfamilies.org:  bpsparentuniversity.org, which is dedicated primarily to Parent University, and bsaconline.org dedicated solely to the engagement of BPS students and activities of the Boston Student Advisory Council (BSAC).
