Family engagement that is linked to learning is the kind of engagement that has the greatest
impact on student outcomes.  The BPS Family Guides to Learning provide parents with the tools to support learning at home and build partnerships with teachers.  It is also a valuable tool for teachers.  It opens the discussion about student learning in a way that builds a relationship between parent and teacher.  How schools introduce and use the guide throughout the school year is critically important to the desired outcome – family engagement linked to learning.

1. Emphasize with parents that the home activities were carefully selected or created to expand on things that many families already do in their daily lives.  When you introduce a home activity to parents, start with one that will be easy for them to implement.
